Ten Reasons Why You Should Read at the Kasbar
Another stellar night at the Kasbar last Wednesday. And (whaaaa!) there are only three weeks left in the series, Born to Write. So if you haven’t read at the Kasbar before, here are ten reasons why you should:
1. It’s the only venue where your work can be given a live soundtrack by the world-famous Raving Poets band.
2. There’s beer.
3. Your friends are all showing up with poems that mention you.
4. At the Kasbar, they have a special concoction of hops and malt you can drink when you’re thirsty.
5. You can walk around on the same floor where there were belly dancers last week.
6. When you read a good poem, the multitudes shall weep and rejoice.
7. There’s this guy behind this sort of desk thing. His name is Chris. When you give him bits of paper and metal, he hands you back this blubby stuff in a green bottle and it makes you all laughy.
8. You can only push the envelope of art if you lick the stamp.
9. Somewhere, the butterfly effect of your words may redeem a lost soul, give fresh hope to the despairing, or save a small child from an undead squirrel monkey.
10. And if you don’t have a poem to read, come on down to the Kasbar anyway – because there’s beer.
I arise in the morning torn between
a desire to improve the world
and a desire to enjoy the world.
This makes it hard to plan the day.
