The Snake

Leaves, grass -- dry, dead, rustle
shift with the breeze near the ground,
menace, speak of serpent.
Ancient memory strikes,
galvanizes action.

The thought insinuated,
the deadly apple,
the snake's gift,
poisons the soul
deadens perception.

Sinuous death coiled ,
threatens, tempts, entices,
seduces with onyx eyes,
hypnotizes
the very soul.

Ancient myth blurs reason,
maligns the serpent
distorts the vision,
the eyesight that came
with the first bite
of apple.
