Dark Elegies
I drive into the rising Sun,
So bright it engulfs everything,
And I cannot turn away,
Creature of night that I am.
Because I have to be somewhere,
To do those things that fill my days.
In spite of myself,
I find comfort
In the illumination,
Letting it envelope me,
And ease my darkness,
Drawing me out
Into the gravitational field
Of a major planet,
Myself a smaller moon,
Swept away into space,
Towards a solar surface,
Where flares explode like fireworks.
And, finally, I am free of wanting.
