Dark Elegies

14

The Greeks knew about passion—
Its dualities—
Sensual romps in Elysian Fields
And nightmare journeys
Into caverns,
In whose dark recesses
Hide lost loves—
Or the Minotaur,
Product of bestial lust.
Fables of gods and goddesses,
Or studies
In abnormal psychology?
The matter of the heart,
Always at the centre
Of folktale or myth.
Healing, the outcome of a journey
Into darkness—
A winter tale of the heart,
Anaesthetizing pain.
