summers eve symphony

the evening breeze
blows long and weepy
on a broken clarinet-
my feet keep a walking beat.

xylophone wind chimes
play ghastly and
distant tinkles,
as a bungled beagle
howls a hungry lyric-

automobile engines hum along.
a jet gives a throaty moan.

an alleycat splashes a
trashcan cymbal
as i whistle a solo
beneath the spotlighting moon-

a stopsign redlight
flashes approval.
a siren howls for more.

trembling willowleaves
give a standing ovation-
their applause
is a softspoken roar.
