how can you control the speed of falling?
you have no parachute for this
no rip cord, no escape

and even though you hang in the wind
on the edge of a wing
while you look at earth’s hard surface
so very far below,
even though you know
this is a dangerous escapade
and you will certainly feel the land
rise up and break you

still, you jump
