The Amazing Meat Transformation

Where once flesh on bones
was beginning to smell
I can tell now as
a corner is truly
turned, burned
away is the
rot,

replaced instead
by eyesight anew
where everywhere
my shoes take me to,
I see that all the meat
of the common man,
woman and child
alarms me in a
very splendid
way:

Blueberries!
That’s what my eyes
have become now
and if you can’t
see that, you
will, because
we are made, I swear,
of mangos and melons,
of brilliant pomegranate minds
sugar thoughts and salty lust,
and big juicy artichoke
hearts.

So on this street corner
I stand, preaching a message
to be laughed at by all but
the incurably insane, and
I’m laughing too (again!)
from a belly of bubble gum,
because what you did to me,
for me, has resulted in nothing
short of The Amazing
Meat Transformation.

I am changed,
and know yourself
that it will
happen to us all
in some way at least
before our ends.
