Judas Did It
Judas did it
with a kiss.
Judas did it
and Judas does it
and keeps on doing it,
I suspect.
In my dreams,
on the corner in
the steam of a
hot dog stand,
through the corner
of my eye, I saw
Judas walking by
and he looked back
as if to say,
“Hey, sorry about
the Jesus thing and all,
but when someone is called
to die, someone else has to
take them there, do
the dirty work, and
I’m still doing it,
hanging round in
hospitals & old
folks homes,
doing what
they don’t
have the
strength
to do.
“Death,” Judas
seems to say, “is a door
I sometimes have to
push you through.”
So Judas did it
and Judas does it
and Judas keeps on doing it
And when my time comes
and yours, maybe
it will come
with a
kiss.
