KALEIDOSCOPE

We sat at the edge of the bottomless pit all through
watching calamities go by
swift as images seen through the louver of a fast car
stopping by occasionally to pay obeisance
to our thoroughly tranquil times

we pinned at the pain of change
crystal ball histories in luminous globules of tears
and when they broke like deltas reaching for the sea
depositing its dried up salty whiteness on the banks of your cheeks
they seemed like shrivelled daffodils
with heads bowed like salaaming moslems
as they fell off the edge of your face

in such variegation we remained
till unseen hands tipped you into the pit
leaving me to ponder on about
the back flip of the setting sun
the diamond light of sunrise
and the curious beauty of a kaleidoscope.
